Overview

The PAIR team at IIEST, Shibpur consists of twenty-three dedicated researchers from nine different departments. The researchers are engaged in work across three verticals: Additive Manufacturing, Advanced Functional Materials, and Advanced Biomaterials. The summary of the work presented below:

Ongoing Work

Additive Manufacturing

Development of High-Performance layered composite structure in Al-based high entropy alloys incorporating TWIN Plasticity
Development of nano-scale oxide-dispersed high-entropy alloys for fuel cladding and structural components of nuclear reactors through additive manufacturing.
Design and development of nickel-based superalloy (Inconel 718) matrix metal-ceramic nanocomposite material for use in low-pressure turbine (LPT) blades through the laser-based additive manufacturing process.

Advance Functional Materials

Development of transition metal-based complexes for possible application as electronic and optoelectronic devices.
Investigation of the effects of disorder and impurity potentials on a two-dimensional lattice under both uniform and spatially varying magnetic fields.

Advance Bio Materials

A scalable method for crumpled graphene is being developed using silver nanoparticles formed by solid-state dewetting to pattern glass, followed by conformal graphene deposition.
Development of a biomimetic perfusion platform for replicating the physiological microenvironment of human oral mucosa, addressing the need for controlled and reproducible in vitro models for tissue engineering applications.
Development of a biodegradable Mg alloy implant for hip fracture fixation and an auxetic structure-based implant to replace the intervertebral disc in the lumbar spine.

Future Work

The application of the synthesized materials will be thoroughly explored in the future, along with theoretical investigation. The IIEST PAIR team will aim to prioritize the national objectives under Viksit Bharat.
